Despite a challenging weekend at Parkhead, Hibernian FC finds themselves with slightly enhanced prospects in the Scottish Premiership standings. Even though the Hibees faced defeat, thanks to St Mirrens victory over Dundee United, our beloved Hibs are certain to finish no lower than fourth this season. This past weekend has indeed shifted the tides slightly in our favour.
Aberdeen's stinging defeat has dented their goal difference more than our own setback against Celtic. This means Hibernian will secure third place if we can either better or match Aberdeens result in their next fixture against Celtic. Our own encounter against St Mirren this Wednesday could set us up beautifully for a triumphant closure to the league stage, keeping the dream alive and spirits high at Easter Road.
On a bright note, Nicky Cadden clinched the mens player of the year award, recognised for his tremendous impact on the team. Though my personal vote was cast for Jack Iredale, the competition was fierce and indeed, any one of several candidates could have rightfully claimed the honour. Meanwhile, Caddens crucial injury-time equaliser against Aberdeen, though not winning the 'moment of the season', remains a season highlight for many. The accolade instead went to Rocky Bushiri for his dramatic late equaliser in the same game, a decision well-received as Bushiri also took home the players' player of the year award.
Our community was deeply saddened by the news of Sir Tom Farmers passing. A knight in shining armour during Hibs' darker days, Sir Tom was instrumental in thwarting a merger scheme with rivals Hearts, essentially saving our club from oblivion. His contributions didn't stop at crisis management; he was pivotal in the renovation of Easter Road, making it the grandest stadium in Scotlands capital and establishing our state-of-the-art training facility in East Lothian. His crowning achievement, assisting Hibs in winning the prestigious Scottish Cup in 2016, will forever be cherished.
Sir Tom's legacy is interwoven with the fabric of our club, and his loss is profoundly felt throughout the Hibernian community. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.
On a lighter note, heres a bit of friendly jest for our rivals over at Hearts: Why dont Hearts make good detectives? Because they can never seem to find the top of the table! Heres hoping our run towards the leagues summit continues undisturbed as we aim for glory this season!
